Fall is the ultimate season to have fun here on California’s Central Coast. The weather is typically perfect—sunny, warm and mild. Also, the summer crowds have dissipated, and the roads and wine tasting rooms are wide open. And it’s also harvest time in the local vineyards, adding a sense of action and excitement to the region.
All combined, these things make autumn a great time to explore the historic Santa Margarita Ranch and Paso Robles wine country. So whether you are seeking exciting aerial views of the vines or a cozy post-adventure wine tasting, here is your definitive guide to the best things to do this fall at Margarita Adventures and around Santa Margarita and Paso Robles.
1. Soar Over Colorful Harvest Vineyards
The Experience: Since 2012, our Zipline Adventure Tour has set the pace for five-star adventure on the Central Coast. Margarita Adventures’ Zipline Tour features six distinct ziplines spanning over 7,800 total linear feet. You’ll start with our 2,800-foot tandem line, step across a thrilling 300-foot suspension bridge, and take a final flight directly over Pinot Noir vines.
Why Fall? Mild autumn temperatures make daytime zipping exceptionally comfortable, while the visual backdrop of fall foliage creates unforgettable photo opportunities. You might even see some harvest action as you soar over and drive past Ancient Peaks Winery’s estate Margarita Vineyard!
2. Pair High-Flying Thrills with Harvest Wine Tasting
Fall and wine tasting go hand-in-hand in San Luis Obispo County. To experience the journey from vine to glass, book the ultimate autumn day trip package: our Zip ’n Sip Package.
The Experience: The Zip ‘n Sip Package combines our classic Zipline Adventure Tour with a priority wine tasting at our affiliated Ancient Peaks Winery, located right across the street from our office.
The Tasting: Enjoy a flight of 5 estate-grown wines paired with an artisan cheese and charcuterie board. Sip on single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel crafted right from the soil you just flew over.
3. Golden Hour Adventure: Sunset & Twilight Ziplining
As the autumn days grow shorter, early evening on the ranch brings mild temperatures, golden sunsets and clear night skies.
The Experiences: The seasonal “Sunset Sensations” zipline tour runs through October. This is perhaps our most popular tour for selfies and photo opportunities, as the beautiful lighting of sunset creates an unforgettable backdrop.
And in October and November, you can take a “Glow Zip” zipline tour. As the sunset fades and the stars come out, you will soar through the darkening skies with a heightened sense of marvel and mystique. Glow sticks are provided to help light the way.
4. Cruise Ranch Trails on an Electric Bike Tour
If you prefer two wheels to high wires, explore the historic 14,000-acre Santa Margarita Ranch via our guided Vineyard E-bike Tours
The Experience: Our Vineyard e-Bike Tours take you deep into Santa Margarita Ranch’s role as part of California’s iconic Mission Trail, revealing its heritage and natural wonders. You’ll wind through vines—learning about sustainable winegrowing practices—and you’ll discover the ranch’s colorful native creatures and exciting geological past. The pedal-assisted electric bikes traverse the rolling hills with ease and make for an exhilarating and unforgettable outing. You can cap it all off with wine tasting and lunch at the affiliated Ancient Peaks Tasting Room & Café just across the street from our tour office.
