We are excited to introduce our newest guide and official staff naturalist, Sherryl Clendenen!

Sherryl comes to us with extensive experience in outdoor education, wildlands conservancy, and wildlife rehabilitation. Here’s the scoop on how she got here:

What is your background?

“I have worked in outdoor education for more than 24 years at a variety of youth centers including The Wildlands Conservancy’s Wind Wolves Preserve; the International Center for Earth Concerns; and the City of Ventura’s Interpretive Outreach Program.”

What specific programs inspired you?

“My work at the Raptor Rehabilitation and Release Program in Simi Valley was rewarding as I was able to combine my passion for wildlife and teaching while conducting interpretive presentations to groups using non-releasable wildlife.”

What was a turning point for you?

“My love of wildlife inspired me to volunteer for the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s California Condor reintroduction program for seven years.  There I developed a deep love of the California backcountry and met my best friend, soul mate, and husband, David. During our days off and vacations we backpack, explore, observe wildlife, botanize and continue to learn from others.”

How did you come to work at Margarita Adventures?

“Beverly Gingg, the Oak Education Manager for the ranch’s “Learning among the Oaks” programs introduced me to one of the partner-owners, Karl Wittstrom. After touring the ranch with Karl, I applied for a position and got it!”

What is your favorite thing about working at Margarita Adventures?

“I love the great diversity of plant and animal species on the ranch and that the owners want to share the rich cultural and natural history of the ranch with the public. Combining this with the awesome fun of the zipline and kayak tours is a perfect mix for me.”

What have you experienced at Margarita Adventures that most stands out to you?

“I guided three generations of women from the same family on their first zipline experience. The 94- year-old grandmother said that the ziplines were exhilarating and the family had a wonderful bonding time. It touched me to help facilitate their experience.”
