We are excited to announce that 20 local military veterans are set to enjoy a one-of-a-kind adventure as SLO County Veterans Outreach and Margarita Adventures collaborate to host a complimentary zipline canopy tour and lunch on Saturday, October 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The zipline canopy tour, which typically costs $99 per person, is being offered in gratitude for the service and sacrifices made by local veterans. “We consider it an honor to host local men and women who have served our country and community,” said Karl Wittstrom, proprietor of Margarita Adventures.

Participants will experience our four ziplines at the historic Santa Margarita Ranch. Along the way, they will learn about the ranch’s remarkable natural features, sustainable winegrowing practices and role as part of California’s famed Mission Trail. The tour will conclude with a festive lunch donated by Santa Margarita’s The Porch Café, which is owned by Carol and Sam Samano. Sam Samano is retired from the U.S. Army Special Forces.

“Our program was developed to honor those who served and create an opportunity for our veterans to remain connected as a valued group in the greater community of San Luis Obispo County,” said Gabriel Granados, coordinator for SLO County Veterans outreach, which also organizes other outings for local veterans, including golfing and hiking. “For the zipline canopy tour, we have veterans from Vietnam on up, men and women, from ages in the 20s through 70s. It’s a real cross-section of those who have served in the military in SLO County.”

While the RSVP limit for Saturday’s tour has been reached, Granados encourages local veterans to register for upcoming outreach events by calling 805-781-4285 or emailing ggranados@co.slo.ca.us.
